House of Gilda Haas

Can a family love its psychopath? The main theme of this story is mental illness, and how a family and our society are not capable of dealing with it. The threat of death is always lurking and scary, but in the midst of it all, a family unit has to survive, and keep going. Set in 2019 in Houston Northside immigrant neighborhood, this story revisits Federico Garcia Lorca’s classic play “La Casa de Bernarda Alba” with a new, contemporary twist.

Fa Fa Familia

This is a story about a family who is suffering. There is a quote of Liszt’s famous piano piece entitled “Mephisto Waltz”. This is the call of the Devil. This album includes a play script for Middle School and High School age Theater groups. I edited the script to make it more acceptable to be performed in schools.

My Goodbye Song

When loosing weight becomes important for your health and your survival, you have to say Goodbye to your favorite old foods, from junk food to hamburgers. My daughter Maya Parani is an animator and she made this video. Hope this song helps you with your diet and it gives you a new way of looking at food. Stay healthy!

Promaja

This song is about the phenomenon of ‘promaja’, or a “draft” in Croatian. People there believe that “promaja” or “propuh” is that deadly draft which causes headaches and general sickness. I wrote this song on a plane coming back home to Houston from Croatia. My theremin player, Joe Parani helped me with a few verses.

Destination Wedding

This song is sung by Morana. She goes to jail to marry a criminal. Actors are Johnny the serial killer, Joe the security cop on Theremin, Sky as Morana and me on piano and voice. Oreo, our dog is a natural actor! This video was done by my daughter, Maya Parani.

New Generation Prayer

This song is about two grandparents who are raising two grandkids. They are lost at this moment in the play and praying hard for a better future in the midst of hopeless situation.

House of Gilda Haas

This is the Overture to the play and a theme song of the play. My brother, Stanislav Kovacic plays cello here and cello is just the perfect instrument for this story.
